Thea M. Mason is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She is the third eldest of 5 children, Langston (oldest), Rachel (2nd oldest), Thea (3rd Oldest), Celeste (4th oldest) and Joni’ (the baby!) Her parents are Celeste and John Franklin Mason.
Thea was introduced to cooking as a young child through her Aunt JoAnn and her grandmother Geraldine Croft. Her Aunt Jo taught her how to bake cakes from scratch as well as make something from nothing when it came down to leftovers in the fridge. Granny Croft taught Thea how to make delicious home cooked meals from scratch and the significance of presentation, “You have to see it before you eat it, so make it pretty!” her granny always says. Combining both skill sets from her Aunt and granny, Thea joined it with what she learned on her own playing around in the kitchen with her older brother when they were kids and with what she taught herself, Thea became quite the home chef!
As she grew older Thea decided that cooking was just a pleasurable hobby, as a result she pursued a degree in education instead of culinary. After a number of years in education and other careers Thea decided that the culinary discipline was calling her and went on to open Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen in Lexington, Kentucky in the summer of 2018.
Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen is a mobile food truck and catering service that specializes in fresh fish and chicken dishes. “A Lotta Bass, A Lotta Biddy!” is the model alliteration and mantra that she uses for her company. Customers have taken a profound liking to the name and the food! Meals are cooked to order and we pride ourselves on providing the best customer service!
